This is a sea angling forum for the debate of all angling related topics, including: shore fishing, boat and kayak fishing. Here you will find pictures of anglers going sea fishing and catching fish. You will find angling related debate. Sometimes anglers will retain fish for the table. Whilst we respect the personnal choice of anglers to follow catch and release practices, this is not a conservation forum and devout conservationists unable to accept anglers sensibly retaining fish should seek out alternative forums. Anyone preaching catch and release or criticising other peoples reports will have their posts removed.

After discussing the idea with our leader Baramundi Bob its been agreed to run a competition for a bit of fun, we've decided it's to be known as the 'Whitby sea anglers forum Gas Mantle big cod trophy'.

It's a bit of fun and no cash prize is offered but a trophy shield with the winners name engraved on it will be given.

The idea is simple, you catch the biggest locally shore caught cod and add it to this thread with a photo and a few details and at the end of the year the winner takes the shield for a year.

Please though don't add your catch to the thread if it isnt larger than the current record holder.

The rules are :-

1) The fish must be caught by a forum member.

2) The fish must be a shore caught cod.

3) The fish must be photographed at the time of capture and its weight given (fish photographed at home later will be declared void).

4) The limits are Spurn point to Hartlepool Steetly pier

5) In the event of a dead heat the first to post here wins.

6) The closing time for entry is midnight 31st December each year.

7) Entries are taken on trust (no official weighing is necessary) but in the unlikely event of dubious claims Baramundi Bob and myself have the final say.

8) The winner must surrender the shield at the end of the year in readiness for the next winner.

Best of luck to all who enter... who's gonna kick the competition off ?

The trophy shield is now on order and I should have it in about 10 days, once I get it I'll post a pic here.
