This is a sea angling forum for the debate of all angling related topics, including: shore fishing, boat and kayak fishing. Here you will find pictures of anglers going sea fishing and catching fish. You will find angling related debate. Sometimes anglers will retain fish for the table. Whilst we respect the personnal choice of anglers to follow catch and release practices, this is not a conservation forum and devout conservationists unable to accept anglers sensibly retaining fish should seek out alternative forums. Anyone preaching catch and release or criticising other peoples reports will have their posts removed.

What breaking strain line do you guys use? I've been scaling down to about 10lb when using lighter lures such as the Chug Bug and the like for that bit of extra distance.
Thats weaker than what I use for fly leader on the rivers!

I'm on 12lb mono straight through, although I'm toying with the idea of braid

I use 30lb braid with a small 30" 15lb-20lb mono trace (braid would get caught on the front treble during the cast).

Yeah it is like , but you can upgrade to a stronger breaking strain because of the lower diameter , which in turn means loosing no line if ure unlucky enough to hit a snag , and it lasts alot longer..........have a trawl through e bay or summit , you should pick summit up like power pro in 300 yds for 20 quid or summit from the usa.....ive tried a couple of different brands and so far im quite happiy with 20lb power pro in olive green .....cheers

thats us sorted then, 30lb powerpro, 20lb vanish fluracarbon leader with a suitable crosslink on the end, & a maria chase BW red head on the end. with an X rap & a mag popper for if you get bored and want to try something different.

 happy happy happy

I bought the big magnum for catching tuna, but it might get a try out for a laugh this summer, dives to 20ft so it might troll up a pollack ?

I personally think the storm jointed thunderstick has got to be up there with the best all round shallow diving plug. Had countless bass on them and have personally witnessed fish to 15lb on one.

I was wondering if any of you lads, make your own fly's....why i ask is i know a lad who has had a lot of success with bass fishing a clear a bubble float trailing a small Delta eel behind, i was thinking of giving it a go this season but trying a sandeel looking type fly instead of the Delta eel, i thought it might come in useful if there is a bit of an onshore wind making it difficult to get a plug out to were you want it. If any of you lads are intrested in making a couple of sandeel eel type fly's let me know and i will gladly buy some from you..

Cheers,

Gary
