Well Done To Ryan Vasey AKA Ryanfish For Winning The Whitby Fishing Club Junior Section.

Polite Notice

This is a sea angling forum for the debate of all angling related topics, including: shore fishing, boat and kayak fishing. Here you will find pictures of anglers going sea fishing and catching fish. You will find angling related debate. Sometimes anglers will retain fish for the table. Whilst we respect the personnal choice of anglers to follow catch and release practices, this is not a conservation forum and devout conservationists unable to accept anglers sensibly retaining fish should seek out alternative forums. Anyone preaching catch and release or criticising other peoples reports will have their posts removed.

I put my Berkeley Crystal in the bin after around six months. It started like wire and never got any better. No problems with the green stuff though.

Ive never tried the calcutta shads yet (anyone in Whitby sell them?) but the storm and shakespeare versions work well off Saltburn to Skinningrove at this time of year.  Had some good cod last year and found the 4" orange ones caught most fish.  I use them from my own boat on a tubi boom with 6/7/8 ounce lead and a 2-4 metre flowing trace.  If you need more lead than that it's time you were heading back in methinks  :gum:

Lose quite a few in a day though, my worst was 17 lost in one trip over rough ground.  Combined with the loss of the lead sinkers (70p a chuck) I had to go and have a lie down in a dark room when I got home.

Ive noticed wc when using shads on land rock ie 30-60 foot deep then tackle losses can be very high infact a jigger trace lasts far longer.Move into 180foot rough ground then its the total oppersite in my experience.
As for the colour issue I used to swear by the blue ones but yesterday I had to make a quick change cause my tail was bit off so I grabbed the nearest shad which was a sh***y dark green one and it fished like hell.
Think it was Smokey who said they dont seem fish quite as well on the filey, brid, bemmo ground as they do further north and judjing by what weve found this year so far this appears to be true.
