Look forward to seeing you Neil. Strangely, I don,t think any of the lads have fished there in the kayaks....yet!  It,s still early but once the weather settles the Cod and Pollock will move in and will offer some decent fish. Fishing from the shore or close in on the boats can be really productive at times so lets hope the weather plays ball. There will also be other fish like Wrasse, Coalfish, Mackeral etc but as it,s a heaviest fish match these are unlikely to win. I will post some pictures of the venue and launching area soon and we will offer any advice or answer questions should anyone have any through the forum so it,s available for everyone to see. As the match nears, weather updates will also given, regards Ray.

from your user name i am guessing you live in the borders Neil, whats the kayak scene like in your area, with the state of the weather down here, some of us yorkies could easy be encouraged to a take a trip up north.

The fishing up here is much the same as you lads have, and so is the weather..

 At this time of the year if we get light winds they are usually off the sea so we get fog. At least today there's no fog but it's a bit fresh from the North for comfort. Hopefully things should pick up a bit in June.

We've had a run of spring codlings which started the end of April from Berwick,they are now right up into the Forth and being caught from Dunbar etc. The mackerel are not here for us yet but plenty Pollock starting to show up inshore.

Welcome to our site, its always good to have another kayak angler aboard, especially one from another area with maybe a different perspective to offer. Have you been kayak fishing long ? and are there many kayak anglers on your bit of coast ? It really seems to have taken off here over the last year after we had a post from our founder kayaker - quint on the subject everyone else seemed to get interested real fast. There are a lot of topics on the forum now about kayak fishing, if your interested you can find a link to most of them here :

Thanks for the welcome Glen.  There's a few of us into kayaking up here in SE Scotland.  I have been into kayaking for about 30 years now. I built my first kayak from marine ply using a set of Hartleys boat plans in 1984.I got my first SOT three years ago, I think they are breeding in my lock up though..
I Used to do a lot of dinghy angling but rising running costs and disappearing slipways forced me to down size. We do a lot on our own patch at this time of year but we will soon be heading over to the SW of Scotland for the excellent Tope and Pollock fishing to be had. In the winter months we fish the deep water Sea Lochs further North, cold but sheltered from the worst of the winter weather.

I'll keep looking in your site, after all I'm coming to Pickering for a week in July..

Hi Neil, Nice to hear from you.

My mate Colin will be travelling down from north of the border for this event too. He's based just north of Edinburgh and fly-fishes the Lindisfarne area for bass and mullet.

Sounds like your mate Colin could be the same Colin that I fish with in that area, he just stays 9 mile up the road from me.
