This is a sea angling forum for the debate of all angling related topics, including: shore fishing, boat and kayak fishing. Here you will find pictures of anglers going sea fishing and catching fish. You will find angling related debate. Sometimes anglers will retain fish for the table. Whilst we respect the personnal choice of anglers to follow catch and release practices, this is not a conservation forum and devout conservationists unable to accept anglers sensibly retaining fish should seek out alternative forums. Anyone preaching catch and release or criticising other peoples reports will have their posts removed.

Radio 4 had 15 minutes on the marine bill this morning at 05:45, various interviews with people explaining how good it would be for us if we would just let natural england close the sea's, unfortunately the only person speaking against it was a Geordie salmon netter

Its bad news for us Dave. The sad thing is that the Sea Angling representation bodies by and large have been taken over by conservationists. The types of people attending meetings with DEFRA and Natural England are either conservationists or the type of person who has a desire to attend meeting rather than go fishing. Looking at the senior members of SACN And NFSA I would not rate 1 of them as a hardcore angler in the sense we know it. What's more when you try to join those organisations and get your voice heard the close ranks on you and make sure they paint you as black as possible.

Worrying times ahead Dave and we haven't got any decent representation.

An excerpt of my response to the RSA Strategy consultation.

Quote
3.What is the biggest issue for you affecting your angling ? -

I am pleased you asked this. By far the biggest issue effecting my angling at the moment is DEFRA and Natural England. DEFRA's inability to manage the sea and the commercial fishery is plain for all to see. The years of neglect, turning a blind eye, and ignoring scientists means my fishing, although very good at times, is not quite as good as it should be. After years of NEGLECT DEFRA now pretend to be taking an interest. So where do they start ??? Do they decide to finally sort out the commercial fishing fleet ensuring sustainable practices are employed ?? No (They are too frightened of the NFFO). Instead they turn on Sea Anglers and propose many restrictions which can only damage our sport beyond repair. Fishing licences, bag limits, no take zones, bait digging restrictions etc etc etc. For no reason whatsoever DEFRA have decided that sea angling now needs managing. Why ? I can only conclude its to create jobs for the boys.

I don't like the sound of all this - the BBC were reporting this during the morning and you can just tell the sort of people we are up against - it will go the same way as bloody fox hunting - I can see bag limits happening and that will be the death bell for match fishing on this coast, years of tradition down the pan - think I was born in the wrong century and the wrong country - if it happens I will emigrate and try to find work on a Japanese whaling boat

Makes my blood boil Iain it really does. What's worse is when you read the web sites of these so called "Angling representative bodies". You expect to see concern over job losses, concern over fishing clubs and fishing festivals being hit. This isn't the case though. Leon Roskilly's SACN proudly announce their presence at The Marine Bill launch. Instead of asking questions about the countries charter fleet they announce they were present when
Quote
"Hilary Benn, Jonathan Shaw and DEFRA's Rodney Anderson mingled with stakeholders from the local fishing community, environmental NGOs, local fishery officials and Recreational Sea Anglers"

No mention of how charter boat owners are going to sell their unwanted boats when people wont go charter fishing any more.

They need horse whipping, the lot of them. The conservationists have hijacked sea angling and are about to ruin it.

Here is SACN's very own Dave Morton doing his bit for promoting north east charter fishing. This man claims to represent anglers from the north east. Quite clearly he needs a lesson in how to fish in the region. Maybe Dave should ring the Whitby Charter Skippers and book a trip. I'm sure they could show him the way to the feeding grounds.

 wink

Just look at Dave Mortons "Tiny Ling" in the video.

This is a propaganda video shown to the government to try influence them into introducing the marine Bill.

Why did he choose to show a picture of a tiny ling like that? The man is fully aware that if you fish for ling in the spring of the year you catch tiny Ling. Why did he not wait untill Septemeber when you can catch ling like this ?
