This is a sea angling forum for the debate of all angling related topics, including: shore fishing, boat and kayak fishing. Here you will find pictures of anglers going sea fishing and catching fish. You will find angling related debate. Sometimes anglers will retain fish for the table. Whilst we respect the personnal choice of anglers to follow catch and release practices, this is not a conservation forum and devout conservationists unable to accept anglers sensibly retaining fish should seek out alternative forums. Anyone preaching catch and release or criticising other peoples reports will have their posts removed.

Got to be up in a boat I reckon.  Better control while paying out the line while drifting.

Shore fishing with 13ft + reel down for me as the rod is more managable and also for a power cast the reel can be gripped easier.
For heavy shore work though where bullying fish or in tight situations ie tight in the backs against cliffs then for me high reel.
Low reel deffo makes hauling the fish in an arm pumping experience, supposethats why you see a lot of the rock lads fishing high reel, but for extreme range on the beaches the lads drop the reel down to help put the power into the cast......looking at the tournament field most cast reel down.....but the fishing situation rarely replicates the field.

There you go for me reel up in tight spots, reel down in more open or where range is needed,as with fairly small hands I grip the reel better with my left hand, which puts power into the cast much later than the right does.....for me anyway.

Cheers Jellyworm.
