This is a sea angling forum for the debate of all angling related topics, including: shore fishing, boat and kayak fishing. Here you will find pictures of anglers going sea fishing and catching fish. You will find angling related debate. Sometimes anglers will retain fish for the table. Whilst we respect the personnal choice of anglers to follow catch and release practices, this is not a conservation forum and devout conservationists unable to accept anglers sensibly retaining fish should seek out alternative forums. Anyone preaching catch and release or criticising other peoples reports will have their posts removed.

Questions regarding keeping Sandeel
« on: July 19, 2007, 12:58:02 AM »
I have a couple of questions regarding hwo to look after Sandeel and was wondering if any one can help

1. What do Sandeel eat?
2. What is an ideal size tank for Sandeel?
3. Will Sandeel and Peeler Crab co-exist in the same tank?
4. What features do Sandeel need in their tanks, other than sand & water?

If anyone could answer any of these it'd be much appreciated

Thanks

Martyn

I'm sure one of the boat lads will answer you mate, they keep sandeels I think. I know if you set up the tank properly you should be able to keep them alright. My mate had a salt water marine and kept everything off our shoreline including fish.

Hi mate, its not that common a bait around here certainly nowhere near as much as the southwest area, I think most anglers in the NE use frozen for the few times we use it. Maybe a search or a post on world sea fishing might get you a better response as there will be hundreds of guys on there who would no doubt have the info you want. sorry cant help myself !

I,ve kept fish in the same tank that I keep my shrimps in and they lasted untill I used them which was about 2 weeks. The shrimps I,ve got now have been in my tank for about 3-4 weeks and are still wick,I,ve noticed tonight that some of them have peeled  :o  I only have water in the tank and have not fed them. I would say that a cooler is a must especially for sand eels but I stand to be corrected. If you have a pump involved in your crab tank set up, put a header tank above the crab tank and fit an overflow pipe. If the water gets warm though, they,ve had it. :-\

ive heard that you dont need a lot of water if you have sand for them to bury into. they can be kept a long time using the sand method
