Polite Notice

This is a sea angling forum for the debate of all angling related topics, including: shore fishing, boat and kayak fishing. Here you will find pictures of anglers going sea fishing and catching fish. You will find angling related debate. Sometimes anglers will retain fish for the table. Whilst we respect the personnal choice of anglers to follow catch and release practices, this is not a conservation forum and devout conservationists unable to accept anglers sensibly retaining fish should seek out alternative forums. Anyone preaching catch and release or criticising other peoples reports will have their posts removed.

Does anybody have any idea as  ,within what sort of distance a typical fish like a cod has to be in , to be able to pick up the scent of a bait ,?
Its just somthing ive always wondered , i guess its a pointless question ( well its not really ) ,  just thought ide see if there was anybody out there who could answer .....
i know they say a shark can pick up a blood droplet in an olympic sized swimming pool , wondered about other fish ......
Also would you say the presentation of the bait in clear water is as vital as the scent ? or doesnt that matter too much as long as the scent is going on .......i do always try and present my bait  naturally , but do i need to pay more attention and detail to presentation , when i say presentation i dont mean masking the hook etc .....Thanks     wink happy

On this video Alan Yates (from Sea Angler magazine) reckons a cod can sense peeler crab from 1 mile away !

Seems a bit hard to believe to me but thats what he reckons.

I personally think a fish like a Cod can only smell bait in its local vacinity
Only a matter of meters No way do I believe they can smell it a mile away
No Chance.......
