This is a sea angling forum for the debate of all angling related topics, including: shore fishing, boat and kayak fishing. Here you will find pictures of anglers going sea fishing and catching fish. You will find angling related debate. Sometimes anglers will retain fish for the table. Whilst we respect the personnal choice of anglers to follow catch and release practices, this is not a conservation forum and devout conservationists unable to accept anglers sensibly retaining fish should seek out alternative forums. Anyone preaching catch and release or criticising other peoples reports will have their posts removed.

Fished the Penn Final today at Silloth with a  3am start  sleepy . Things looked ominous when I plucked out peg 13  whistle Started off very promising with a good Flounder 39cm long first chuck  surprise There was a smattering of fish early then it went dead over low water much to the suprise of the organisers as it,s been fishing very well of late. In the middle of the match either end of the venue started to produce fish with quite a few treble shots. Once it started to flood some of the central pegs started to produce too with some treble shots of Dabs. Most of these were caught further out approx 70yds or so with very few fish taken at close range. A clipped down wishbone rig was my most succesfull rig which took another 40cm Flounder and 3 double shots of Dabs with 2 of the fish being undersize. Managed another single Dab later to finish with 7 fish for about 2.5m in length well behind the winner who had travelled from Ireland with well over 20 fish. It,s amazing how peggy it can be with some anglers catching consistantly while others nearby struggled to get bites. Overall I think it was a good venue and fished quite evenly over the 4hrs in which it was fished, with purple patches and lean spells in all areas. Due to my knackerdness me and Andy Barmby decided not to hang around after the match and headed for home. Certainly learned a thing or two and would feel more confident if I fished it again. Wasn,t to be this time though  cry Thanks to maxie GJW and mww and chopper for their info and help which was much appreciated and also for other pms I have recieved  happy . I have a pic or two when I find my camera  scared and hope to post the results shortly

Well done Ray happy. Qualifying in second place out of all the UK anglers shows your quality more than any result in a match where luck of the draw dictates who has fish in front of them to catch (Obviously we wouldnt have said that if you won today whatever cheesy). Top fishing mate and hopefully some more good results to come this year.

...hmm....looks like after the anti-codling worms I produced last winter, I've managed to perfect the anti-flounder crab now.....sorry!! sad

Hard luck, Ray, but like others have said, well done for getting there....

its a bit peggy alright i fished it up there once and didnt do much and went down to have a look on a big tide and it was ridged up where the tide runs so if you were in the bottom of the ridge you had fish but on top you didnt.
fished silloth match today and drew the zone that was fished yesterday i started where the broken posts (you werent there ramrod were you there was a big shell on the beach wink)were in the beach one fish first cast then dead, moved up on to the mud and ended up with six flounders biggest 43cm thought id have a shout of longest fish but got beat by a 45.
it was maybe too calm bright and sunny for the fish close in this weekend they all seemed to be in the tide run.
that irish lad seems to be a good angler im sure he won the dingle individual last year and the irish lads reckoned he was going to be a good un
