You will find angling related debate. Sometimes anglers will retain fish for the table. Anyone preaching catch and release or criticising other peoples reports will have their posts removed.

round three between allonby and tommy legs 3up 2 down.
weather 30-40mph winds patchy rain.

this would have been a good match with half decent weather but a big sea on here means one thing, weed.
i ended up fishing a shallow gully which was breaking the main waves but only small flounders in there, fished the gulley channel where it runs out and got an eel last chuck.
only three eels out in the match though and mine was the smallest.

round five marport pier to dubmill point.35 fished.
1 down 4 up a steady 20mph plus wind making the fishing hard work and putting a bit of weed in the water.
winning the match was gjw with a 3lb 9oz bass for heaviest bag and heaviest fish.
second was one of his mates with a cod and eel.
third was me with a flounder and eel.

well done to gary on winning the match and nice to meet you mate

i didnt think it would take much to win last night, with a wind like that on there it holds the water in and there always seems a lot of shallow water and weed, maryport prom is awful for weed on the flood as well.
and with not many cod about and the dogs dont seem to like it rough in the shallow water.if it had been calm i think there might have been some big dogfish bags out.
the only bright side of the match was i was still in the car when that torrential rain was on before the match :cheesy:

I don't think we will have much of a chance if you are fishing next sunday Al, maybe you can improve on your 3rd place in last years event and with it being your 65th birthday on that day it would be a nice birthday present for you....

But like Maxie said it was a difficult night for fishing with the strong wind and weed in the water..
We also sat in the car waiting for the torrential rain to ease before the start of the match,, I must admit i was very suprised not to see a few more codling come out though, I hope things improve over in the Solway for you soon Maxie...

Well done Gary and Martin great result in poor conditions.Dav you shouldn't be that surprised at Gary catching the bass,I reckon he could have a chuck in Locke Park and pull one out the form he's been in this summer.Fast learner and top rod as you say      Arise Lord Bassman of Cleveland      Dav you just save yourself for sunday bud.

round six maryport pier to workington pier 5-9pm 4 up to high water.only twenty anglers fished.
a cold but dry night and wind about 15-20 mph nw.
sea was perfect for cod once again.
winning the match with two codlings for 5lb 4oz top local match angler mike laycock including heaviest fish 3lb 8oz picking up £120 and £70.
second a pickering two codlings for about 5lb.
third me one cod two rockys for 3 and a half pound.
there was a roll up of £2.50 a man held back each match to be paid out in the final match as it was run as a league, best 4 results out of six.so we had nearly £500 pounds to pay out on the night.
winning the series was me with three thirds and a joint fourth for £200 :hungry:
second another top local match angler steve george £150.
third tom whitehead £100
and joint fourth mike laycock and joe stevey £50 each.
not a bad series we paid out nearly 3 grand overall, shame aboout the cod fishing as it might have been different if they had showed.

cheers ramrod the lads i beat are very hard to beat as they can always grind a result out something which i struggled with when the fishing wasnt very good.
