This is a sea angling forum for the debate of all angling related topics, including: shore fishing, boat and kayak fishing. Here you will find pictures of anglers going sea fishing and catching fish. You will find angling related debate. Sometimes anglers will retain fish for the table. Whilst we respect the personnal choice of anglers to follow catch and release practices, this is not a conservation forum and devout conservationists unable to accept anglers sensibly retaining fish should seek out alternative forums. Anyone preaching catch and release or criticising other peoples reports will have their posts removed.

Just got in from a nights fishing the beach near Newholme beck, sea was very flat but there were plenty of flounders.

Best of the night was my mates 2lb 4oz caught at very close range using crab and lug.

This report reminds me of an old fishing partner who told me that years ago (and i mean years ago) he used to fish at that very spot during the last week in August and the first week in September relgiously. He used only the top section of a freshwater rod with the line tied directly to the tip ring, and using mackerel as bait he would catch really big Flounders. The interesting bit was, that he used to wade out just a few yards thats all, fishing just behind the first or second wave.

We got a few more but the next largest was a lot smaller at 1lb 3oz plus a very small cod and the usual bait stealing coalies.

If its of any help the spot where we were at was about 100yds Whitby side of the beck

Earlier we did try Runswick yacht club but even 3 of us with 6 rods in the water we drew a blank  sad
