Polite Notice

This is a sea angling forum for the debate of all angling related topics, including: shore fishing, boat and kayak fishing. Here you will find pictures of anglers going sea fishing and catching fish. You will find angling related debate. Sometimes anglers will retain fish for the table. Whilst we respect the personnal choice of anglers to follow catch and release practices, this is not a conservation forum and devout conservationists unable to accept anglers sensibly retaining fish should seek out alternative forums. Anyone preaching catch and release or criticising other peoples reports will have their posts removed.

Most Fish In A Session??
« on: August 10, 2008, 11:16:09 PM »
What's the most fish you have ever bagged in a session?? I'm not really interested in how many sacks of mackeral you filled in a day,but the more important species in our waters.Personally mine is 10 cod in a session, several eights, many many sevens and sixes. If i remember rightly,my dad once told me of having 48 fish in one session down Skipsea in the 70's.The strange thing was,Thornbacks and Spurdogs made up a large proportion of the bag along with plenty of better cod over 5lb  :scare: food for thought ... tight lines

21 Cod Mart in 96-97 season. Strange thing was I hit the same total 3 times that season. Once from Saltwick in September. Once from Whitby west in January and once at Upgang in March. Ive been nowhere near that total since although Ive bagged a dozen on a few occasions and once had 15 from Saltwick about 5 year back. I think I could have had double the total that night as I went home at 1pm and the fish were still biting as soon as the bait landed in the water. I usually only fish short sessions of about 4 hours with a single rod. Last years best was 11 cod I think - again from Saltwick which is a place I dont fish a lot in matches  due to its unpredictability, but when they are on they are on. I also remember getting 10 one night at Sandsend early last season on a night your mate wasnt far away from me.

Mines 13 fish for 5 st. Skipsea last year. All but 1 well into the ebb just after ringing our lass saying "Im packing up now see ya in an hour" With that both rods went over and the rest is history. That was the day I had to phone a friend to help carry it off!
Hope theres even better to come this winter theres some right big fish about this year.

23 codlings off Sandsend beach about 22 years ago - the place was stuffed with fish even Spawney bass would have caught, young lads were coming down with carp gear and spinning tackle and catching, I pulled in a snood that someone had cracked off with 2 fish on, could hardly carry them off the beach, I was meant to go to a party with the lass but had to phone her up saying enjoy yourself cause I'm staying here, she was not best pleased

Mine was 8 last year for about 21lb from North beach @ Scarborough, also managed a couple of bass for good measure.

I remember watching an angler fish from the drive in a match back in the late 80's, I think it was just after the huricane left its mark, I watched him pull in codling after codling, must have seen him catch 20-30 in about 3hrs, I remember it like it was yesterday cos this guy was a real gent, often wondered if it was one of you guys on here!!

16 codlings and a bass in a club match, and i got beat
most fish in a day has got to be pollack and wrasse fishing in ireland,if the pollack arent having it the wrasse are queing up to get on the rod,you can seem to catch them one after the other sometimes till you get sick of them.
the best day we had was about a hundred pollack to four rods i would say, best fish about six pound and average size 3-4lb,then a shoal of coalies came in averaging 3-4 pound.maybe 50 wrasse to 4.5lb on the same day.weve never caught it right on that mark since.
the first year i went to ireland the harbour was alive with congers from straps to monsters,i had seven the first go in there biggest 14lb,there was eels coming out all over the place,my best that week was 25lb,then i lost a much better one which got caught next morning with my trace in its gob at 38lb,then the scotch lads pulled one out just over 50lb.there must have been well over a 100 eels caught that week.the scotch lads had one on that dwarfed the 50lber but couldnt get it out ,80lb they reckoned:scare: sadly the locals put lines in and cleaned it out and its now just a shadow of its former glory, exciting fishing that week we spent the week down there.

most fish i can recall august this year ,myself harry the cod ,41 pollack and my mate garry ,46 pollack in a six hour session at a mark up the mull to a variety of baits , in a pleasure session, i dare say we could have caught half as many again in match tacticks . the best was 7lb 8oz next day we went to a favourite big fish mark and i got one of 9lb 1 oz it is posted on the forum gallery, my best two from that mark is 10lb 4oz and 10lb 12 oz and lost bigger fish in the kelp filled gullies.

Was that about 20 years ago Chris? When gully was awash with sile? I clean forgot about that night, there was 3 of us following the sile with the spinning rods and i reckon we must have had 200 billet between us,all about the same 2-3lb size.I,ve never heard of or seen anything since so where the billets came from i don't know. The silver demons we used were stripped clean in 2 minutes flat as it was a guaranteed fish a cast, there was that many we were still catching just as many with bare hooks, just one of them nights when we were in the right place at the right time.I wish more people could have seen it,there was millions and millions of sile trapped in gully and the billet were smashing them, every time a wave hit the ledge we were on,there was a river of sile washed up  tight lines
