Does anyone know anything about this group and its remit ? Word on the grapevine is that they along with CEFAS funded by the government will be researching sea anglers and their impacts on fish stocks in the next couple of years. Word is that a member of our forum has been assigned to the group by DEFRA, hopefully this means the anglers of this forum wont be kept in the dark about what is afoot in the southern corridors of power.

No, not the person I have been told about Bassman. It all looks to me like they are lining us up for bag limits and I don't think there is a thing can be done about it.

From what I have been told there was almost total opposition to the licence and rsa strategy with the exception of SACN and NFSA who said little at all. The feeling is that DEFRA are going to steamroller us and pass this whether we like it or not. Note in the agenda the mentioning of CEFAS and research - How can we work together to gather new data and evidence. My advice to anyone would be dont work with these people, dont even talk to them. There are many great wrongs going on in the north sea to Which these people have turned a blind eye, we should not now give them anything that they can use to ensure we catch less so that the commercial fishermen can have access to more.

DEFRA are not concerned about that Paul. I've been talking to John at a meeting tonight and this research was discussed at the meeting you missed in London last week. It is to be a very large study of sea angling including various things from : how many fish we take out the sea to how much fuel you put into your car when doing so. I think the first questionnaires are ready to go.

That is  all well and good glen but it is all leading to one thing bag limits if it had just been rod and line fishing over the last 30 years you would still be pulling 20lb from the shore the same as i did in the 70ss as you said to me things are going on behind the scences from the commercial  sector putting presure on defra to give them an ecuse to curb anglers it absolutly stinks.

 See its reached the news again this morning about the prawners chucking cod and turbots back dead it must be a poor news day or something and will be forgotton about by non anglers by tomorrow.
 Do not have to do a scientific study to state as fact that there will be more commercial discard this week than all anglers catch in a year so why not target this problem?

Yes you are right Paul there are things going on but its not just commercials. This CEFAS research has some anglers involved too. As the topic says at the top, a forum member is involved, maybe he would like to tell us more about the research, the aims and objectives, timescales etc ?
