Well Done To Ryan Vasey AKA Ryanfish For Winning The Whitby Fishing Club Junior Section.

Polite Notice

This is a sea angling forum for the debate of all angling related topics, including: shore fishing, boat and kayak fishing. Here you will find pictures of anglers going sea fishing and catching fish. You will find angling related debate. Sometimes anglers will retain fish for the table. Whilst we respect the personnal choice of anglers to follow catch and release practices, this is not a conservation forum and devout conservationists unable to accept anglers sensibly retaining fish should seek out alternative forums. Anyone preaching catch and release or criticising other peoples reports will have their posts removed.

You're dead right Glenn, I know i've only been a member for a couple of months but i've done around
95 posts,(3 weeks of that I was away).
Some days there are hardly any new posts at all and if there is its usually from the same crew.
Dont know about asking question though, it depends on what you ask I find as to wether you get replies.
I personally think we should be trying to help these youngsters, If no one is willing to help them
surely a lot will give up the sport before they really get hooked (so to speak).
If I can help any youngster I will, I fish for pleasure not the competition.
So shout up lads if you need to know, dont be shy,

Ian

I had been reading this forum for a long time before joining. One thing worthy of mention is its the only forum on the internet where the members go fishing and post reports. Thats why its the only forum I have joined.

I will make my contributions over time, I hope others will to.

Hi,

New to sea fishing and kayaking not sure what I should be doing, but learnt loads since reading the forum. I have been researching the safety aspects of kayaking before focusing on the fishing. I will be looking to see if an trips coming up, however am keen to gauge it at the right level, the tope fishing looks interesting but well out of my depth ( at the moment).

Only had a few trips out in the Kayak and very much learning the basics ie getting through surf and re entering the kayak. I have focued on the kayak skills in Filey bay which has been interesting, seeing fish jump and following a seal. I have only had a brief two hour fish at Flamborough and chuffed with 3 mackeral in one go. Need to learn and pick up more, have a weeks off soon so hopefully the weather will allow a couple of trips out and maydbe a cod or bass.

Please post if you have any trips that are suitable for a novice.

Danny were you been  :cheesy: , welcome aboard, dont let the tope fishing bother you, it a doddle, fishing soft ground with oversized dogfish tackle. Its a lot easier than Flamboro. We will be out as soon as we get a bit of suitable conditions, were you based?

The more you fish form the yak Danny the more confidence ou will get. I was petrified when I first went afloat now it seems like Ive been doing it years, just hope I havent got too complacent.

You are very lucky to live near probably the best peace of coastline in the UK for sea fishing. The Yorkshire and South Cleveland coastline is a haven for all fish species and I think we are only scratching the surface of what is possible. Beeing a member of this forum has opened my eyes to what is possible right on our doorstep. If I think back 2 years I was very short sighted and felt the world revolved around winter cod fishing. The reality is this coast has the best fishing anywhere in the Uk accessible within 40 miles from my front door.

I often kayak fish at short notice around the Whitby area but your always welcome to come join us anytime.

Danny's intro is a prime example of why members should post. I remember when I first joined and I almost became paranoid about other members finding out who I was which is a joke really after all I would,nt go to a weigh-in in a disguise (no jokes please) Maybe new members should at least introduce themselves as a part of being accepted to the site? It is dissapointing that we have so many members with so few of them posting. I may be biased but I would say this site is the friendliest and most informative fishing site around. What do the other regulars think? or even the new members?

with being a local site there is opportunity to meet the other members and I think thats why its friendly, Ive met some top people who have really opened my eyes to whats availabe locally. But the friendly welcome extends beyond the locality as there are many regular posters from outside the area who now just seem to have fitted right in, a prime example being maxie.

I do wonder if that instinct to keep things quiet and not let the local secrets out the bag also gets the better of people at times. I know from my own experiences that you can come under great pressure from others not to say too much about the fishing in your neck of the woods, but I also think you can give a bit without giving too much if you know what I mean. It's pretty easy to take pics with the sea as a background rathger than the cliffs if people dont want to give their marks away, and it just encourages people to get out there and try without giving all your info away.

I think its a shame that we have got to the over 1000 mark on the members front yet there only seems to be around 50 who contribute. I also think its sad that many posters from the first couple of years have gone quiet on us. I used to love the posts from the likes of lobbers as he always caught fish, was willing to help anyone and his stories always had a bit more to them, for example sitting waiting for 50 minutes for the tide to go out with a 10 pounder on the east pier. The stories of the lost fish and the big bass that got away at cowbar, and who can forget the black eye when his 525 exploded at port mulgrave. I know people move on and find other things but I do miss those stories.

I think it's safe to say this is definitely one of the best forums in the UK, what I do like about this forum is even though it is a relatively busy forum it keeps it's friendly atomsphere. A lot of what I'd call national forums are terrible, grown men bitching on at each and generally being offensive day in day out.
I enjoy reading the fishing reports and you know you can have a good bit of banter on here, plus I pretty much learnt how to fish for Cod from this site

Keep up the good work lads and newbies don't be shy, we all started with 0 posts at some point

Its great site with a great bunch of lads and a lot more personal than some of the bigger national sites.

Its the only site that I use on a regular basis now   I cant be doing with the hassle and bitchyness on some of the others !! life is too short

You seem to have found a good balance with modding it Glenn, keep up the good work

Don't be shy you visitors !!  people just love to read about fishing and stories about fishing, especially with a few pics attatched

I have been a bit quiet lately but have not been fishing hardly at all with the crap weather and moving house and all !!

Looking forward to winter codding now and will hopefully putting up some decent reports and pics
