helo lads, just wondering for the summer, has anyone used limpets for bait,and if so  with any results,limpets seem to be another natural bait source,so i just wonder.

Theres far better baits to be using Ben,you will pick odd fish up but you certainly won't bag up,if they were that good every one would be using them....tight lines

lightly putting it there poo m8 ive tried and tried off the holderness coast n havent managed a grate deal on them ive even tried the big ones stick with the better baits lug squid peelers and sutch like if moneys tight try the calami squid n musscles thats a good combo m8

cut the white muscle off the limpet as the rest is siht,,   fry half a chopped onion in a good splash of x olive oil, two cloves of crushed garic a pinch of tarragon and a pinch of oregano in a really hot pan, add the limpets, and stirfry for 1min.
add to noodles rice or whatever, very very tasty

"Henry" reckons they are the dogs boll. for wrasse and must admit to having some excellent sessions whilst tipping off lug with flithers (limpets) while round bearfleet but dont think I have ever used them alone.

Yea I'd agree on that. From past experience I've found the only species that takes them is Wrasse.

They get used sometimes by the lads targetting big Wrasse at the rock marks off Portland/Weymouth.

limpets are good bait on boat.  I have used them on their own whilst winter cod fishing and I have had a few fish on them when I was a youngster
Theyre not very good tho as they dont have much flavour They wont give off much of a scent trail
Hence the Onion and Garlic. Your spot on there lobbers I eat Flithers too, but that wont come as a surprise to those who know me lol

A cousin of mine used to have a pet cod  in a tank many years ago and he told me that it wasn,t interested in limpet even when it was dropped right in front of it,s nose. Of course there was no competition from other fish but they obviously never scored very highly on the cods menu. He also told me that it,s favorite food was  peeler crab  which was devoured instantly every time.

A friend of mine has a lobster in a marine tank,its favorite food is tinned peaches(dont ask how he found this out but it involved herbs and rollups nuff said) but dont think I would catch many lobsters in the sea using peaches as bait
