life cycle of the cod

having been sea fishing on and off for the last ten odd years ,can you the professionals tell me in quick detail the life cycle of the cod please.
we had fish this weekend some full of roe and spermy bits in them so when do they finish spawning etc? where do they all go after a summer on sand  eels, sprats,pipe fish etc
if some one does start this for me can you start from the beginning of its fasinating life up untill the elusive size of been a cod (6 lb ) is that right? or the time it repeats itself if it gets away from us lot

I found this information elsewhere. Maybe someone else can add to it. What I do know is that those cod we start to catch in early Autumn that are just reaching legal size of 35cm are the ones spawned in the previous year and are about 18 months old when they reach the legal size limit.

"Cod spawn in late winter and spring. Gradually, the eggs float to the surface layer. When they hatch, the tiny larvae live for a week or two on the contents of their yolk sacs. When this is used up, they feed on plankton for several months, then start settling to the bottom."

At the stage mentioned above I am sure they would be all but invisible to the human eye.

They get laid , hatch , feed then get caught by mwa........ :cheesy:
