This is a sea angling forum for the debate of all angling related topics, including: shore fishing, boat and kayak fishing. Here you will find pictures of anglers going sea fishing and catching fish. You will find angling related debate. Sometimes anglers will retain fish for the table. Whilst we respect the personnal choice of anglers to follow catch and release practices, this is not a conservation forum and devout conservationists unable to accept anglers sensibly retaining fish should seek out alternative forums. Anyone preaching catch and release or criticising other peoples reports will have their posts removed.

lol I got a pic of my dog with a 5 ounce bass if you want that

Joking aside I much prefered the BassyKen name. It made you more of a sea angler than one of them pond dwelling types  :tease:

Unfortunately I have to go to rugby (apparenty Hull FC is a rugby team - confused already) Been invited by a customer to his private box, just an excuse for a piss up me thinks

shshsshshsh

forecast is pretty naff at the mo. You probably going to laugh but I got a bit of cash for my birthday and had no idea on what to spend it on. So I've bought a 1.5m Pacific sail for a laugh, ye they expensive but i'm not paying . A few of the southern boys have been using them for a while and covering some big, big distances, I already have the rudder and a wife who can drive so in the right conditions/wind theres nothing stopping me putting in at one launch site and aggressing at another. Plus it will fit all of our yaks so we can all have a play and experiment  .

I've been toying with fitting a cut down windsurfer sail on the McYak for a while now. Can't decide whether it would be worth it and where to site it if I do. I don't fancy those front wheel drive sails. I'm thinking more of a mizzen.

Look up "A Thousand Miles in the Rob Roy Canoe" on Google. Just shows what can be done.

they reckon you can do a bit of a beam reach with them, so combining the rudder and a bit of support/brace stroke with the paddle i presume and hope you can have a bit of fun with them. Of course without having a keel you must be a little limited in how side on you can go. I've very little experience but should be a laugh.

Should be easy enough to do Clive, a couple of straps and a pivoting mast

That just has to work doesnt it mate, a kite would give you support too and  they can be 'steered'  :cheesy:

Thats what i love about this sport - and its only a personal opinion - its not just the fishing, its the whole experience out on the water
Got to admit it would be pretty cool seeing a yak momentarily airborn between swells being supported by a kite  :cheesy:

You dont need anything as fancy as that

That golf umbrella/parasol that I take doubles up as a sail   you can get quite a bit of speed up with it too !!

Plus you can take it down ( some of the sails you can't ) It doubles up as a nice parasol or more likely rain shelter !! and best of all it costs less than a fiver  :surprise:

Ken, sailing is a bit more complicated than it first appears. Apart from the drive a sail also is prone to impart unwelcome forces such as heel, rotation and sideways drift. The keel on a yacht minimises the sideways drift and squeezes the boat forward a bit like when you pick up a bar of soap with your thumb and finger. Without something substantial biting into the water a boat is severely restricted in sailing in anything but a following wind. If you really get involved in all the theory you will find that the best place for a mast is in the middle or directly over a keel if the keel or dagger board is not centrally located.

I've already tried the traction kite thing. It's not as simple as it might seem. Having both hands occupied on the controls is one downside. Fastening them on the yak could be dangerous. It's still in the bag waiting for that gentle breeze over the stern, but for beam reaches, forget it unless you can devise a safe method. No problem playing on an unloaded yak, but with a full load of fishing tackle and other valuable equipment on board I'm not willing to risk it.

My problem is twofold: I haven't enough time to properly experiment and I'm crap at DIY. Someone will crack it though.
