This is a sea angling forum for the debate of all angling related topics, including: shore fishing, boat and kayak fishing. Here you will find pictures of anglers going sea fishing and catching fish. You will find angling related debate. Sometimes anglers will retain fish for the table. Whilst we respect the personnal choice of anglers to follow catch and release practices, this is not a conservation forum and devout conservationists unable to accept anglers sensibly retaining fish should seek out alternative forums. Anyone preaching catch and release or criticising other peoples reports will have their posts removed.

how bad was your day ??
« on: September 14, 2008, 07:15:54 PM »
Up bright and early at 5 am to fish todays match. Difficult conditions but we thought we had made a good venue choice, a few bites from the off and we thought we were in   unfortunately it went downhill from there and I snagged and lost 3 decent fish part way in    all down to my new fangled overcomplicated rigs that I have been using lately ( which are now all in the bin ) !!  The only fish I did manage to get in was a bloody wrasse

Anyway I was quite chilled out about it by the end of the match and looking forward to some of the scabby festival matches

Imagine my horror when I was putting my gear in the garage to the sight of my bait freezer door 6 inches open and making a rather loud nasty noise

Turns out in my haste this morning that I failed to close it properly, the freezer then overheated and packed up destroying my winter stock of bait

I though that some of it might be part frozen but NO its all like jelly

300+ cart baits
15 packs of mussel
250+ razors
5 packs of blacks
200+ green crab
6 packs sandeels
30 cock clams
10 mackerel

I have salvaged the razors as they fish ok when a bit ripe, I have re -frozen the crab but will have no confidence in it now though. All of the rest is knackered so is binned !!  this is the 3rd time its happened to me in the last 4 years !!  thats it now I am not carrying a large stock of bait ever again

To top it off I cant even have a few beers to cheer me up as I am at work at 10 tonight
aint life s**t sometimes

sorry to hear of your bad day robq , i did the same yesterday, i pulled a tub of crab out of the freezer and took 12 out of it only to go for a few more today and found the tub still on the top of the freezer , needless to say today my baits were like tennis balls which only seemed to attract the wrasse  ended up with 2 wrasse and a huge eel, could have been worse lobbers had 7 wrasse

There was an abundance of wrasse today for some reason, I think they start mooching as the colour starts to drop out of the water. Bet lobbers was disappointed with 7 wrasse, I heard it was 14 which would have been twice as good...wouldn,t it

Rob sorry about the bad luck-one of the lads on Nesa forum Seanyroo also lost his bait. His wife left the freezer door open and he lost 600 peeler. at 65p each.
Plus other stuff like black frozen lug. (which i think might re-freeze).
Being 30 mile from the coast i buy most of my bait for when i can get down for a days fishing.

Mick.

Feel for you Rob I lost all mine earlier this year after some one turned of the socket the freezer was plugged into, found out by the smell as I arrived back after being away for a few days, only just got rid of the smell
