This is a sea angling forum for the debate of all angling related topics, including: shore fishing, boat and kayak fishing. Here you will find pictures of anglers going sea fishing and catching fish. You will find angling related debate. Sometimes anglers will retain fish for the table. Whilst we respect the personnal choice of anglers to follow catch and release practices, this is not a conservation forum and devout conservationists unable to accept anglers sensibly retaining fish should seek out alternative forums. Anyone preaching catch and release or criticising other peoples reports will have their posts removed.

HORNSEA SAC OPEN MATCH REPORT
SUNDAY 20th APRIL 2008

Hornsea SAC Open Charity match in aid of the RNLI was held on Sunday 20/4/08 and again entry was down on the previous years, it seems to be the same for all of these types of matches around the Country.
However, on the day 108 anglers entered this Penn Sea League match and fished from 11am to 5pm. The weather was not kind, the sea was almost unfishable on Saturday but it had calmed off a little as the Easterly wind dropped a little in its intensity on the day but rain made conditions less than comfortable.
The fishing however was patchy with some of the popular beaches producing nothing whilst other areas anglers were into fish from the first whistle.
Roger Madson  fished a favourite mark of his at Cowden where he landed 5 Cod for 7.94Kg. George Smith who was second selected a beach near Grimston and had 5 Fish for 6.94Kg.
Mark Beadle who had the biggest fish of the day was in the same area at East Newton but did connect with a Cod of 3.82Kg (8lb 6oz) he easily won the biggest fish prize.
All things being equal the weigh in was perhaps better than last years match and a total of £366 was raised for the RNLI.

Mike Coates in his first year as a member of Hornsea SAC was easily the best placed club member winning the R Beaumont Trophy with a 4 Cod weight of 5.20Kg from Ringborough.
It is hoped that next years match will be better attended and that the weather will be kinder.
