This is a sea angling forum for the debate of all angling related topics, including: shore fishing, boat and kayak fishing. Here you will find pictures of anglers going sea fishing and catching fish. You will find angling related debate. Sometimes anglers will retain fish for the table. Whilst we respect the personnal choice of anglers to follow catch and release practices, this is not a conservation forum and devout conservationists unable to accept anglers sensibly retaining fish should seek out alternative forums. Anyone preaching catch and release or criticising other peoples reports will have their posts removed.

Hornsea Match
« on: March 18, 2007, 10:06:14 PM »
Me Andy B and the Kelpster went to fish the Hornsea match with a spring in our step checking out a couple of places on our way south. Our plan was to fish a sand bank for the start of the flood for cod then move north after a couple of hours to try for skate. We were greeted by 3 blokes hauling a net in from the beach! Any way we all blanked there so we stuck with our game plan and headed back north. First cast Andy caught a 3.5lb cod and Mark got a nice Doggie. My second cast hooked me a skate just under 5lb, good start! Andy caught a whitey and Mark went on to catch a 2.5lb cod a whitey and a bleg. While this was happening i hooked into another skate, by this time i was fishing on the mudbanks, i got it onto the beach below me and got my leader through my rings and off it came. I would  have estimated it to be about 8lb. The skate i caught won me the heaviest fish anyway as it turned out and was the only skate weighed in! There was some decent bags of codling weighed in, the winning bag and best by a good margin was 6 cod for about 8 kilo (i think)

Nice one Ray, hard luck with the bigger one - maybe if you'd had a 18ft rod you could have flipped it up the cliff!!! ;D

Was there much movement down there?

There was a bit of movement Mart and it was starting to build towards the end of the match. The wind was bad and spoilt it a bit, there was also some weed about. I tried to get some stronger hooks earlier in the week (cox and rawl) i think i would have got the fish  if i managed to get some. It had too much time in the surf but i didn,t dare give it too much with the hooks i was using, gutted when i lost it.

You mean Ragaconda Mark. No I think it,s still in my bait shed but I dare not go in to find out. Thats the biggest ragworm i,ve ever seen, when you pulled it out(the ragworm that is) of its lair the headland slipped down a bit ;D
