This is a sea angling forum for the debate of all angling related topics, including: shore fishing, boat and kayak fishing. Here you will find pictures of anglers going sea fishing and catching fish. You will find angling related debate. Sometimes anglers will retain fish for the table. Whilst we respect the personnal choice of anglers to follow catch and release practices, this is not a conservation forum and devout conservationists unable to accept anglers sensibly retaining fish should seek out alternative forums. Anyone preaching catch and release or criticising other peoples reports will have their posts removed.

butterfish are the patterned eel like ones, ive not had any success over rough ground with them but if youre fishing over the rough stuff that has sand between then they are dynamite. i think they bury themselves in the rock and weed, cos i always got plugged. ive never tried them for cod but i will try. i use them with a spinning rod or bass rod, with braid and a light lead usually inline to reduce the tangles. im not kidding when i say the bites are quick ive had them take within 10 seconds of casting out. you should wait for the bite to become a pull also, the bass will attack the fish first then will return and swallow it, hence the braid, it lets you know exactly whats going on

Sounds like good tactics to use on the kayak on the right type of ground !! looks like I might have to install a small livebait well and start doing a bit of rock pooling with the kids to catch a few !!

Thanks for the info Baza  ;D ;D

Could do if you wanted to mate but it would take someone to organise it though. I would gladly pay in. I think you would have to draw up a couple of rules like weighing the fish or make it a longest bass and you have to submit a pic of the fish on your measure. Just an idea but I could see people arguing if 2 or 3 people had bass of similar weights and their scales weren't calibrated. If someone wanted to set something up and everyone agreed I would pay into that.

 ;D :)

instead of all that lets have a match somewhere, all the regs on here meet up, and have a daft match, a fiver or a tenner each, all paid out, 1st 2nd 3rd, would be a good crack, dead easy to organise ???

Will this one do Bob?

Caught this aft in Cayton Bay on freelined, pole-fished, bread flake and gave me a fair old run around on a number 20 elatic. And if you believe that fairy story, you'll no doubt be looking forward to Ramrod's 'Methods for Minke Whales' article too?

Seriously though Bob, when did the comp start and when does it close, what are the boundaries, are you including boat captures and will you want a witness? I prefer to put them back over 4lb (there are plenty in the 2-4lb class which make good eating) and fish on my own a lot of the time.

Also, in the interests of conservation and my bank balance can't you exclude peeler caught fish?!

Cheers, T

Can I join AFTER  and IF I get a decent bass that is the heaviest weight?
See, I learn quick!

As it only for a badge you just weigh the fish and tell us what it ways. If you can get pictures that would be great but not essential.

Separate awards for boat and shore.

Think big Bob!

When your site takes over from WSF, these badges will become collectors items owing to their scarcity value and kudos, won't they? What I was really driving at, is whether it's only open to Yorkshire captures?
