This is a sea angling forum for the debate of all angling related topics, including: shore fishing, boat and kayak fishing. Here you will find pictures of anglers going sea fishing and catching fish. You will find angling related debate. Sometimes anglers will retain fish for the table. Whilst we respect the personnal choice of anglers to follow catch and release practices, this is not a conservation forum and devout conservationists unable to accept anglers sensibly retaining fish should seek out alternative forums. Anyone preaching catch and release or criticising other peoples reports will have their posts removed.

Heaviest Bass
« on: May 11, 2007, 11:05:02 PM »
Ok I've started a forum comp for the heaviest bass. The rules are pretty relaxed and if there are several people on a similar weight then they both win (sorry no prize - just a forum badge  ;)).

Just catch a bass weigh it (return it or eat it) and post your weights. As Allan isn't a forum member his bass is as yet ineligible (maybe he will join) ?

So the heaviest bass this year to date is Lobbers 2lb from Whitby Beach

So just catch a heavier bass to steel the award from lobbers.

Lobbers forum awards to date.

Nice one mate good to here. I have a couple of theories about these bass Mike and Although I haven't a clue what the hell I'm talking about I think there are several places that are definates for a big bass and most are on very shallow scars. I wish I could motivate myself to go try them. Was gonna go last night but felt tired out. The place where Arthur Mack always fishes in his yellow wellies has to be a good spot. Also I think both bats could be good around high water.

The forum award will soon be against my name  ;) ;D

I,m interested in hearing about butterfish too. I once heard a story from a filey lad whilst up on bennys about a mate of his mate who uses small rockling/blennies and butterfish as livebait ?? He reckoned that he had caught a double figure cod lobbing 20 yards to the left of bennys ! I found it a bit hard to believe but he was adamant it was true !!

butterfish hooked through the tail flicked out onto sand as close to the rocks as you can, if theres a bass within 50yrds you will hook him, quickly, butterfish work best in my experience though blennys work also but they dont seem to wiggle as much.ive set a couple of traps this morning. mine are the round type for crabs but i find that a 2ltr bottle with the top cut off and pushed back inside top first and baited with rag of mussel and dropped into a rock pool works very well also
