Polite Notice

This is a sea angling forum for the debate of all angling related topics, including: shore fishing, boat and kayak fishing. Here you will find pictures of anglers going sea fishing and catching fish. You will find angling related debate. Sometimes anglers will retain fish for the table. Whilst we respect the personnal choice of anglers to follow catch and release practices, this is not a conservation forum and devout conservationists unable to accept anglers sensibly retaining fish should seek out alternative forums. Anyone preaching catch and release or criticising other peoples reports will have their posts removed.

Not fished that area, but I've fished most of the harbours in Cyprus and a few rock marks. I'd advise fishing structure unless you are planning to fish at night. The only time I've done any good off a beach in daylight is by using a short ice rod and jiggers dropped over reefs while snorkelling.  You sometimes see saddled bream taking bread off the top in open water. They can be caught on floating crust and a bubble float.

If you fish the harbours set up a bait rod and have a spinning rod handy for when the bass or bluefish come in after the small fry. You can buy bags of breadcrumbs in any supermarket and a kilo of crumbs mixed with a tin of tuna will soon have the fish around your bait. Locals use a cheesepaste on the hook. Not had much luck myself with cheese. I prefer fresh fish baits - what you catch is as good as anything. Set out for little fish using 12 or 14 size hook then put the ones you catch on the other rod under a bung. If bluefish are about you'll need a wire trace. Bass often come into the harbour and occasionally baracuda though mainly in winter. You can book a boat fishing trip in Paphos for tuna and shark if you fancy catching 20lb fish on 100lb line.

Mullet also come into the harbours at night. Big one too - 5 kilo is not uncommon.

Have a good trip.

Thanks for that clive loads of good info mate, dont think the boats will get my money mate dont agree with that kind of fishing its not sport.
Would love a go at the big mullet so looks like a couple of early mornin/evening sessions.Only taking light tele rods so will be concentrating on structures and rocks rather than open beach.
Thanks again hopefully a report will follow on my return.

Unable to locate a tackle shop anywhere in vicinity so resorted to natural baits.Started with hermit crabs and instant results with the floats disappearing immediatly they settled, unfortunatly unable to connect with anything and bait always gone on retrieve. After 10 or twelve missed bites decided to change to a paternoster rig and again instant bites that were lightning quick but again could not connect so after trying several different hook sizes decided on a change of bait.On went the sea snails, not whelks but similar. At last a fish and mystery of missing baits was solved as a wrasse was landed, from then on it was a return of maybe 1 fish for every 5 bites, they really are like lightning, with the snails proving a bit tougher than the crab.We had fish between 4 and 10 inches so nothing spectacular but really fun fishing.Forgot to mention fishing a rocky outcrop into water depth of between 3 and 10 feet in depth and time of day/state of tide DID NOT seem to have any effect on fish as they seemed happy to feed at any time.
