This is a sea angling forum for the debate of all angling related topics, including: shore fishing, boat and kayak fishing. Here you will find pictures of anglers going sea fishing and catching fish. You will find angling related debate. Sometimes anglers will retain fish for the table. Whilst we respect the personnal choice of anglers to follow catch and release practices, this is not a conservation forum and devout conservationists unable to accept anglers sensibly retaining fish should seek out alternative forums. Anyone preaching catch and release or criticising other peoples reports will have their posts removed.

Anyone know where we really stand on the Whitby East pier bridge fiasco ?

I've heard alsorts of rumours about a survey being planned to assess the cost of repairs etc but nothing seems to be more than hearsay.

The last tale I heard was the estimated cost of a survey (not the actual repair) was going to be £130,000 surely that cant be right ? I'd have thought you build a new bridge for that !

Someone here must have some info thats a bit more reliable ?

Don't think you'll see that mended inside of 10 year, if ever. Only thing that would push it faster is a health and safety issue - ie someone like the coastguard needed access to the pier.

On the West pier yesterday I spoke to a couple of workmen who were replacing a ladder, they said they do most of the pier repairs and inspections and neither of them have heard of plans to even carry out a survey let alone build a new bridge.

One guy was particularly helpful and his thoughts were it will never happen, apparently the East extension has had no maintenance (or very little) done for a least 10 yrs and in his opinion the cost bringing it up to meet the minimum safety standards would be as much as a new bridge.

I guess that kinda confirms what we already suspected  sad
