Polite Notice

This is a sea angling forum for the debate of all angling related topics, including: shore fishing, boat and kayak fishing. Here you will find pictures of anglers going sea fishing and catching fish. You will find angling related debate. Sometimes anglers will retain fish for the table. Whilst we respect the personnal choice of anglers to follow catch and release practices, this is not a conservation forum and devout conservationists unable to accept anglers sensibly retaining fish should seek out alternative forums. Anyone preaching catch and release or criticising other peoples reports will have their posts removed.

The cliffs we fish at this end (Sandsend, Staithes, Robin Hoods Bay) are just of an average height so we dont really need anything special. I use the 7500 c3 ct (Its a C3 converted to fit on a CT cage). Last year I decided to try Bempton. I used braid on the 7500 but snagged up, and lost the lot. I wont be doing that again. Now I have bought an Abu 9000 and I intend to use my Penn 535 mag as a back up (think it will just hold enough line).

I was going to get an alvey for using braid from bempton but dont really go up there enough to warrant buying a reel specially for it, my 535 is loaded with 80 whiplash and that does a good enough job, only problem is it tends to bed in a bit after you have winched a fish up then fluff up on the next cast.

Eye these youngsters Rob. Or club has a strong contingent too and they are all good lads, but occasionally get a bit silly. It did make me laugh when fishing a mark not too far away to see fireworks coming from Saltwick. We got back to the weigh in and I asked about the display and whacker just started going beserk. The juniors had let a load of fire works off right next to him. "F-ing kids frightened all the fish away, no wonder I cant catch nowt". Made my night it did.

Anyways sorry to interupt the topic with that but these youngsters are so funny. Stay safe though Dan, I remember being your age (Just) and thinking I was imortal - you aren't and the cliffs are dangerous places.

It's a long time since I went wandering round Bempton but the favoured reel at the time was the ABU 10,000 for it's spool capacity. Is this still the case?

Funny you say the thing about teenagers been imortal in our english test it said the exact same thing on smoking but getting back to the cliffs in my opinion i think the cliffs are dangerous yes but if your not with silly people then they are quite safe if your safe on them.

I did some very silly things when fishing whilst I was early -mid teens thinking that I knew it all, even when poeple used to tell me I was being reckless I just used to laugh it off. Looking back now I think luck has played a large part in my still being here :o :o.
Now I am in my late 30s and have 2 kids it scares me just thinking about one or two narrow escapes that I had !! It only takes one mistake, As BB says stay safe lads ;D
