Whats the best braid for plugging purposes ? and what breaking strain ?

Fireline is a good choice Glenn, some braids are too supple and tend to twist and knot up especialy when there,s a head or side wind. I suppose the breaking strain depends on the type of ground you are fishing but 20lb usually does for most situations. I think there,s a couple of others on the market which are good maybe someone else can enlighten us.

Fireline for me..20lb is like 6lb mono in diameter, but would be as good as any 30lb mono for strength...probably better

Has anyone tried the Whiplash Ray  or is it a no-no.Just thinking of a higher breaking strain while still being very thin,even compared to Fireline....tight lines

I use berkley whiplash in 60lb for fishing for pollack, and havent had a problem but like you say it is very thin and it could be a problem with it twisting and knotting in the lighter breaking strains...

Dav put me on to Powerpro braid in 20lb for my bass fishing which i have been very impressed with...

I tried the Power Pro last year Gary and slated it for it's knotting ability when casting.In all honesty it was 100% my fault,don't ask how but i totally overlooked the fact that the rod i was using was rung for multiplier with small 1st ring  A certain forum member is kindly bringing me a couple of nice spinning rods back from the Usa shortly,so it should be problem solved.....What a buffoon i am

i have been using fireline for a couple of years now with absolutely no problems for all my plugging, spinning and float work.

one spool has 15lb on it that i use most of the time while the other has 20lb for casting 3oz in estuaries for flounders and wrasse fishing to stop them getting back down.

I like 20lb whiplash, Its very limp and thin and not too expensive if you shop around. Only one thing with it DO NOT overfill your spool !! otherwise you will get wind knots and ruin the line 

I have got some red 8lb power pro on my ultra light outfit and that is very nice too, a little stiffer than the whiplash but not that much thinner really.

Have used a few different brands of braid and my conclusions upto now are , the fireline is very wiry which i didnt like, , whiplash pro , is very limp ,maybe to limp and its also not round, i did notice with this line i seemed to get alot of wind knots , The line ive settled on for now is power pro , think its a nice round line , which casts well and doesnt seem to cause me any problems ,
 One thing i will say glen is try and get into the habbit of closing the bail arm manually with ure hand making sure the braid is taught , if you just use the reel handle to close it eventually you will have a loop of line off the spool which will cause alsorts of problems......

have recently put whiplash crystal onto my new plugging reel and had to get out to try it. it worked superbly. im used to fireline but this whiplash loaded correctly(cheers bill) is something else.
