jus a lil more advice please chaps. being an old fresh water fisherman im used to using hook links of a weeker line will this be the case in boat fishing. and if so what do u recomend for a main line of say 30lb. ta in advance

i use 30lb for mainline, can't see any need for anything stronger.
hooklengths are generally 50lb for me or even heavier if we are fishing for ling (teeth shred light line in no time)..

30lb is the minimum I would use I go for stronger line 50-70 Lb
But each to his own
I certainly wouldnt go lighter than 30 tho
My mate uses 100lb without problems but I feel 100 is overkill lol

strange im used to dropping down to minimise the line snapping anywhere up to the reel. but thanks for the advise
