Polite Notice

This is a sea angling forum for the debate of all angling related topics, including: shore fishing, boat and kayak fishing. Here you will find pictures of anglers going sea fishing and catching fish. You will find angling related debate. Sometimes anglers will retain fish for the table. Whilst we respect the personnal choice of anglers to follow catch and release practices, this is not a conservation forum and devout conservationists unable to accept anglers sensibly retaining fish should seek out alternative forums. Anyone preaching catch and release or criticising other peoples reports will have their posts removed.

Some soundings taken from Saltburn/Skinningrove/Hummersea 5 days ago.  Nice bit of ground this and available to you kayak men.  I have left depth/time and gps positions.  PM me if you can't see em' (I've shrunk them for anglers with kids monitors )

Some nice markings on there too. Did you get many fish there ?

My neighbour fishes this area commercially and commented on the amount of Thornbacks and plaice in the sandy areas. He said he was surprised we never catch them.

Yep, took some nice cod from these marks over the last 4 years on orange shads and fish stay on them right through the year.  Red hokkies tipped with squid/rag do well also.  Shads are useless when water is coloured though.

In my view the forum is about exchanging locations and marks where we can each catch fish, or better our chances of catching fish.  If we each keep secret our own marks then there is no point in having a forum.

I think the problem is Glen nobody really tries seriously for the thornies.I have heard of some big common skate from this area too and was talking to a guy a few year back who told me he had fished for the thornies off one on the Whitby charter boats who specifically targeted them by anchoring up and uptiding with fish bait.I used to work a few longlines(squid baited) around this area years ago and never touched one but had plenty of good cod.Its the same around Saltburn, they reckon many a good thornie came off the pier before it was "shortened".

Well done shadrap, great to see someone willing to share info freely.
A few years ago it was common practice for local boats at skinny to shoot a worm line or two on the soft ground that runs from the grove  southwards and absolutely bag up on flats of all description. Noone bothers nowadays but a certain little inshore trawler out of whitby visits the ground every couple of months and does well on it.
Might be well worth a go with rod and line
