This is a sea angling forum for the debate of all angling related topics, including: shore fishing, boat and kayak fishing. Here you will find pictures of anglers going sea fishing and catching fish. You will find angling related debate. Sometimes anglers will retain fish for the table. Whilst we respect the personnal choice of anglers to follow catch and release practices, this is not a conservation forum and devout conservationists unable to accept anglers sensibly retaining fish should seek out alternative forums. Anyone preaching catch and release or criticising other peoples reports will have their posts removed.

Phil, in my sad old days I use to make the odd balsa model boat, we used a compound called sanding sealer, you paint this on in several coats and sand it to a smooth finish. Any model shop will stock it  happy

And if you still looking for tools you can have anything at all totally at cost. If its cheap your looking for do a search on Silverline, I'm a stockist of this stuff, not exactly industrial but you still get a warranty anyway

its not so much for smoothness ken cos i can get that on the lathe but i've been looking at pearlescent base coats before the main colours go on and they're not cheap lol but looking for good quality (if i can) enamel paints for airbrushing the final detail on with then epoxying over the top.have got a little money now (although it was meant for a yak lol but i doubt i'll afford one this year anyways) so will have a gleg now and see what i can come up with.
cheers

seriously mate, I would look into sanding sealer, once that is on you can then put anything on you like but thats the 1st thing that should go on bare wood.  happy

I do a bit of airbrushing for fun, but I mostly use 'autoair' water based paints now, then blow it over with 2 pack clearcoat.
'House of Kolor' paints are good, lots of great colours and effects, and not water soluble! I'm sorry I've not got any to give you at the moment, got a little bit of nice 'hot rod sparkle' chunky metallic mid coat, might be good for lures, but its water based and would need to be well cleared over.
Usually if you want a pearlescent finish you put a plain basecoat on first, then the detail and pearl over that. - I can only really paint hot rod style flames though, so don't take this as gospel! cry

It's all very well knowing how to do something, - but being able to do it is just a question of practice.

Hopefully I've sent you a pm Mouldy, not sure if it's worked!

I just knock up a stand with a bit of wood to hold a tank in position,
a couple of croc clips clipped to the hook and line eyes on a lure might do the trick to hold it steady while you squirt at it.

I use Lechler Macrofan Rapid HS clearcoat for clearing

one of these things might be just the job :
