A fellow angler asked me the other day if I knew how long cod live (assuming they dont get caught), it's something I've never thought about till I was asked but I'd be curious to know myself.
I've tried various sites on the internet to try and find out but so far have drawn a blank.
My guess would be 20 yrs+ but thats only a guess.
According to 'Wikipedia' specimens of 200lbs have been recorded although admittedly they are rare.
I did read somewhere that a large adult cod needs to eat 50% of its own body weight per day just to survive, that seems a lot to me but would explain why they have big mouths
Any experts here who can give a bit more info ?
