This is a sea angling forum for the debate of all angling related topics, including: shore fishing, boat and kayak fishing. Here you will find pictures of anglers going sea fishing and catching fish. You will find angling related debate. Sometimes anglers will retain fish for the table. Whilst we respect the personnal choice of anglers to follow catch and release practices, this is not a conservation forum and devout conservationists unable to accept anglers sensibly retaining fish should seek out alternative forums. Anyone preaching catch and release or criticising other peoples reports will have their posts removed.

Anyone flown Jet2 before???
« on: June 14, 2007, 08:59:04 PM »
Flying jet2 to Cork airport and flying Aer lingus back. Called jet2 a few times and got the usual run around from our fine friends over in asia  :-X ::)

On the last phone call after they had already informed me previously I didnt need to book rods on, there was no size limit etc I was now informed the maximum length of anything I could take was 6ft. This was after a lot of questioning on my part after the guy telling me there was no limits at all.

So this leaves me a bit silly t shirt makered really as most of my rods have 7ft sections, the only ones that dont are my spinning rods. Now ill probably use these the most over there but I did want to get in a good bit of beach fishing and also have a good crack at the congers in dingle harbour.

So has anyone flown jet2 before? anyone taken more than 6ft? I am thinking of just turning up and saying their call centres said it was fine (as initialy they did) or claiming they are ski's, which they do take and surely these would always be over 6ft in length.

Or only other option is to post them over, but havin difficulty finding a courier that will take them without costing a small fortune  ???

Any ideas lads

flown Jet2.com loads of times, mainly Leeds or Newcastle to Amsterdam. Definitely have taken a rod tube containing an 8ft tip at leats once each way, although was a few years ago.

cps & I took his Bazuka rod carrier Newcastle to Amsterdam return last year, although I don't think we had it extended further than 6ft.

I'd risk turning up & trying to bluff it through - you've always got the option at this end of leaving it behind, just make sure you've got another tube handy to put the shorter rods in if things go t@ts up!! Once you've got it there, they can hardly stop you bringing it back - just make sure that you leave the outward flight stickers & security tags on....

To be honest, Jet2 have always been really helpful in my experience, even allowing Mrs W & her mate on the flight when they arrived at the airport 10 mins before boarding was to close, when they were flying out to Holland to stay with me!!

Good Luck!!

Assuming that it's your beach rods that are creating the problem, might be worth asking around if any of your mates has a 3-piece rod you could borrow - one time when I flew to Holland I borrowed a mates 16ft Triplex which eased things a heck of a lot!!

Good Luck!!
