This is a sea angling forum for the debate of all angling related topics, including: shore fishing, boat and kayak fishing. Here you will find pictures of anglers going sea fishing and catching fish. You will find angling related debate. Sometimes anglers will retain fish for the table. Whilst we respect the personnal choice of anglers to follow catch and release practices, this is not a conservation forum and devout conservationists unable to accept anglers sensibly retaining fish should seek out alternative forums. Anyone preaching catch and release or criticising other peoples reports will have their posts removed.

a look back at 2007 on the holderness coast
« on: January 02, 2008, 07:01:33 PM »
The spring fishing was a little slow to get going with constant NE winds and cold nights, but eventually the scoolies began to show up around april amongst the spring run of codling

me with a 3.5lb bass

Graham with a scoolie

Eventually the milder weather came around may time, and the summer fish slowly but surely started to show, if you picked ur tides right and put in the hours the was very rewarding.
mixed bags of cod, bass, thornbacks and smoothounds where available.
3lb cod

1st thorny of the summer at 3lb 8oz

bass of 4.5lb

What better way to spend a summers night than on a holderness beach

All of a sudden in may, we had strong westerly winds for a week solid and it really kicked the fishing into hyperdrive, huge hauls of thornbacks, smoothounds and cod where coming from most beaches.
Graham jonied me on a few occasions, and sampled how good the fishing can really be when its on form
one night at hilston me and graham had 22 thornbacks to 8.5lb, 3 cod, 3 bass a pout a doggy and a flounder between us

a few weeks later we set about getting graham his 1st smoothound, he achieved this on his 1st cast with a 6lb hound

we had a good night on the hounds up to 6.5lb with a few cod mixed in

Things went very quiet in june, the only 2 notable catches where my Tub gurnard

And a new PB bass of 8lb 13oz for me

Back end of june the hounds hit holderness big time
one night me and mark had 3 hours hectic sport, landing 13 smoothounds each to just over 9lb and a few bass and cod

July saw the hounds vacate holderness and hit the linconshire coast, me been hound mad this time of year i dicided to follow
best night of the year was 25 hounds to over 12lb and site member J-lo had 8 to over 9lb

August and sep was fairly quiet with a few thornbacks and a bit of float fishing for mackrel up north and from brid pier which threw up a few surprises in the form of shads

Eventually the cod arrived, in the river at 1st with plenty of cod in the 5-10lb range

my biggest been 6lb 13oz from east halton

Lets hope the good fishing continues into next year

tight lines all

mack

nice one chris,  just hope no burglers are watching cos your obviously never at home with all that good fishing you have down your way,

you are lucky sea fishers cos you have it all....,   all year round, good fish to be had from the shore, its just a shame the holderness cost is such an unscenic place to fish, with 30 miles of ugly mud, dont get me wrong i love fishing your neck, but boy, there is nowt to look at if your having a bad day, just sand and MUD :cheesy:
