We decided to get out this week for the festival, so gave seaurchinmick a PM at the weekend and sorted it out. Gave him a call tuesday night to make sure we were still on, and he thought we'd just about scrape it.
So off I go, 4am and I'm on my way to pick Aidy (Fishman on the forum) up from near Wakefield. Didn't exacly get off to a flier when the infamous 'flashing blues' appreared in my rear view mirror right at the bottom of his street

The Police officer's face was a picture when he asked where I was going at that time, 'Whitby' I replied. 'What the hell you doing driving down this way then?!'

Told him I was off fishing and picking a mate up, showed him the rods etc. Next problem was that he came back to me saying that I didn't have a full licence

'WHAT?!' I told him did have, and just as I was about to get read the works (I didn't have it on me) some silly cow at the station found it on the system. He apologised and off I went.
So I'd got Aidy and it was now going on 4:45, we'd be leaving it tight to reach Whitby! Absolutely atrocious fog on the moors didn't help our case, but we arrived at 6:30, just in time to pick up a few bits n bobs from the tackle shop. Before we headed down to the boat I got a couple of pics on the new cam (which would be staying behind for it's own safety!)

Got on the boat and met Harrythecod from the forum and 3 others who would be fishing with us. At 7 the swing bridge opened up and out into the North Sea we headed, all full of excitement for the day ahead. Aidy at this point was still feeling alright, after a few cheeky Vodkas the night before

It wasn't long until we reached our first spot, where not much happened other than Harry pulling in a tiny Whiting. We then visited A couple more spots with nothing but Whiting (Harry was becoming very skilled at hooking them in the tail

)
So off we went, and Aid decided on a spot of breakfast. - a Beef and onion pasty which proved to be his undoing

Upon reachin the new spot we started to find the fish! I had a couple of Cod followed by a Ling from Aidy.

Harry was into fish as well, I'm sure he'll put his photos up when he sees the report.
There wasn't much to report for the next couple of hours, with a steady few fish coming about but we'd not 'hit the jackpot' yet. I managed to get a good fish on, which got into the wreck. The line felt solid but I could feel the fish banging about so I tried to bully it out... not a good idea. My Shakespeare Sea Serpent, which I'd had since I'd first started boat fishing with my dad years ago, gave way which was absolutely gutting

Armed with a new rod we headed off back towards shore in search of fish, and Aidy was the first into them, with his rod banging over like a good un. Upon reaching the surface he'd got three Cod on there, two on a bait rig loaded with Squid, and one on a cheeky shad with a 6ft runner than he'd clipped on. I don't know how the hell he kept it untangled long enough to get three fish on the rig, the jammy b@stard!

Well done to him though he got them up well and was absolutely buzzing, was certainly a great way to break your boat fishing Cod duck!

After this we moved to a new spot where Harry was straight into Cod on a glow coloured hokkai rig with a piece of squid on. I'd just lost a bait rig on the previous wreck and decided to give hokkais a go too, opting for a bright orangey red colour and putting squid on the three hooks. Well soon as I hit bottom I was into Cod as well, and from there Harry and I were starting to clear up. Aid got a hokkai rig on too after seeing our success and from that point onwards there were a few occasions where we all into fish at the same time. We were getting em every drop and I pulled a couple up in one go one of the drops, just by getting one on and waiting for another

Unfortunately for me I got cocky after this and tried it again, resulted in the little bugger pulling me into the wreck and snagging me up!
By now time was running out which was really unfortunate because I could have fished that wreck all evening, it was red hot. Just one last drop said Mick, and down the lines went. I was straight into a nice one, felt much better than the two I'd pulled up at once even, and it was going some. I battled it up and upon being able to see it in the water I turned round to see where Mick was with the net... turned back and it was gone

Can't have been more than 5-10 metres down

Well that was the end of the day, thanks to Mick for all his hard work and running about with the net etc, the last hour or so was hectic! I really enjoyed myself and would fully advise anyone wanting to go out to give Mick a call. Got a couple of photos of our catch on the way back in:

Aidy and his fish

Congrats to Harry aswell, his best Cod, caught on a pirk if memory serves (as was mine) weighed in at 6lb 3oz, giving him third and a nice £20 from the daily prize fund.
