An enjoyable Holderness Session - and a 2nd best cod for me!
« on: March 06, 2009, 11:37:16 PM »
With conditions looking good and me sick of work I decided to take the day off and head down to a mark on the holderness south of withernsea. It was a beautiful day, not much wind or swell

I stopped off in whitby on the way and picked up my new penn affinity 16 foot twin tip rod, then on to Scarborough to pick ducky up so he could catch at least one more cod before his bungee jump.

there was a fair few on the beach and quite a few fish got caught, but it was quiet for us for the first few hours. I suggested a move of about 50 yards north and it paid off. I got 2 fish - 4lb 12 oz and a second best of 8lb exactly while ducky saved himself near the end with a nice codling of about 2 and a half pound.

here's a few pics..

thanks again matty.
it was my first time down there and enjoyed it, it was so so different from what i was use to i did not lose any gear  . that cod that matty got had eaten a foot ball.  it was massive its gut was close to my size.

its a nice easy get down little easyer than hawsker, not sure which i like better rock or beach fishing, rock seems to be more fun. but it was my first time on a beach so i will see what happens again.

matty you not for got to say something  :suspious:  oh yes thats it you never said about getting lost on the way back and some how it was our fault, not sure how that works when you were driving and you had the sat nav, plus i have never been there before   but still very good day all round.

thanks matty

aye Dave must have been at least 2lb of roe in there. it wasnt a long fish , probably a 5lber normally.

As for the rod, I've only had a couple of casts of your red metal so its difficult to tell but it did feel quite similar to me. With the hard tip in it feels a very tough rod that I reckon could be used on most of the ground we fish. I struggled to get the distances I was getting with the spro rod at first but as i varied my casting i started learning more about the rod and started getting better distances later in the session. after finishing fishing i just practised casting with it for 10 minutes and tried different things and I was very pleased with it and I'm sure I will get better as I get used to it, its a quality rod.

I used 35lb braid mainline with 80lb penn dynabraid leader that the fella from whitby angling supplies chucked in with the rod.

Another good thing about the rod is that the whitby angling supplies bloke said as the rings are quite close together on both tips it would be fine to use with a multiplier.
