A new Bass P.B and a few pics
« on: July 07, 2009, 08:47:41 PM »
Well I decided to brave the forecast rain today to grab a few hours on the yak before the Northerley kick in again  :whatever: :whatever:

After an unsuccesful assault on the cornish bass last week on the family hols I was hoping that the yorkshire bass might be in the mood !!

Lucky for me they were with the schoolies happy to hit the trolled plugs

I found a nice little bit of ground that seemed to be holding them so decided to cast at them for a bit. They were htting the lures quite hard and close to the yak but a few of them were shaking the lures especially one decent one that stripped 20 yards of line first   At the end of the next retrieve just as I was about to lift the plug out of the water I got smashed by this beauty about 5 ft from the yak  :surprise:  I nearly tipped out with the shock !!

It practically swallowed the maria Angel kiss   :surprise:

Back on dry land it weighed 5lb 1 oz and my beats my previous by half a pound

Unfortunately I only had 1 more and then had to go as the wind was getting a bit naughty !!

Hope this is the start of things to come  :hungry: :hungry:

Rob

Well done mate - I went last week and got quite a few schoolies.  Missed one that was fairly decent - not as big as yours though.  I know some folk think we're plagued with the little ones and nothing of any size grows up here, but there are the odd big ones about.  Just not many.  What was the last plug you were using?

Cheers lads

The last plug is the mackerel pattern maria angel kiss, the one in the earlier pic is a yo-zuri crystal minnow in blue silver

I like the crystal minnows for trolling but the maria lures seem to cast better. I did try the storm jointed thunderstick for the first time today and was very impressed with the casting and action of the lure but because it runs so shallow I was getting pestered by guls going for it !!

I love to see bass when they are still in the water. Brilliant pictures Rob and well done on the PB. Hoping to run into a flock of these silver beauties one day real soon.

I observed Mike using the jointed thunderstick last year. It spends 50% of the time on the surface. I call it a cross between a popper and a sub surface. It was my fave lure last year. I noticed Ken used it and was kicking ass last year on the schoolies so I ordered some and never looked back.
