ARBROATH (Fishing Report) - SUMMER COD ON THE ROCKS....

COD FISHING REPORT JUNE 2009

Well just arrived home from another enjoyable weeks cod fishing on Scotlands rugged east coast with good pals Martin Jackson and Alan Jackson aka (Big Cliff) Must admit the weather was unusally kind to us and the fishing was pretty hot too....

Cant beat summer cod fishing beats getting blown off a rock on a cold January night, we returned the majority of our catch but unfortunately the odd one was deeply hooked so was taken home for tea..

Bait was mainly fresh crab for me but Mart and Alan also caught very well on a mixture of fresh and frozen crab, and cart baits and also Big Cliffs magic crystal Clams... :surprise: :surprise:

A nice red cod from the kelp..

There was also a good number of fresh run fish aswell..

Done a bit of light tackle float fishing and managed cod, coalfish, and pollack.

Big Cliffs never happier than when hes perched on top of a cliff top fishing.. A nice red cod for him taken from Eithie cliffs.

Me with a nice cod from Eithie Mains..

Martin gets in amongst the action..

Heavy tackle is reqiured to drag the cod from the kelp at Rumness..

Stood waiting for that nod nod from the cod at Boddin point..

Fish on..

Cod on the rocks..

Dogfish and Wrasse also took a likeing to our crab baits.

Al waits for another bite.

Rumness Cod

Auchmithie Cod.

Rotten bottom tactics and strong gear is needed..

Big Cliff shows he can still pull them cod out..

Big cliff snapped this pic as the cod was just flapping its tail..

This strange looking Scorpion fish took my crab bait..

Martin swings in another fresh run codling from a tide mark at Rumness..

The best fish of 7lb 5oz came from Victoria park and believe me took some dragging through the kelp forest in front of me than very next cast i caught another of 6lb 4oz.

Well what more can i say a great weeks fishing with some great company, i hope you like the pics.

Now the coddings out the way its time to target them Silver's see my mucka Davs been sneaking them out whilst i was away on cod duty...

Tightlines everyone....

Superb report and pics yet again Gary. It looks like the weather was kind to you too
There's a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore like an idiot.

yhe old bones are about worn out harry ----- its a great area, from cliff tops to fishing slabs as big as transit vans , rocky beaches
to areas where you catch the tide run where big casting can put you in pole position to marks that you only cast 5 yards yes thats 5
its got the lot i love it i had my trusty 35lb mono no not my main line thats the rotton bottom the main line is 50lb i bet a few are wincing
now , the fish certainley liked those clams it only goes to show you never know

I love it when I here Garry's gone fishing as I know we are in for a bit of a treat when we get the report. You clearly all had a wonderful time and the pics illustrate the quality of the fishing up there. Once again, many thanks for telling us of your adventure and posting all those wonderful pictures, I know how time consuming it is uploading them all and posting them up. You guys must have been going up there every summer for a lot of years now ?? you clearly know the ground and have reaped the rewards. Full marks.

Tell me, were Alan's jokes any better this year ??
