This is a sea angling forum for the debate of all angling related topics, including: shore fishing, boat and kayak fishing. Here you will find pictures of anglers going sea fishing and catching fish. You will find angling related debate. Sometimes anglers will retain fish for the table. Whilst we respect the personnal choice of anglers to follow catch and release practices, this is not a conservation forum and devout conservationists unable to accept anglers sensibly retaining fish should seek out alternative forums. Anyone preaching catch and release or criticising other peoples reports will have their posts removed.

TARNSIDE Sea Angling Club’s Jim Church Memorial Trophy match fished from Whitehaven piers was won by Calder Bridge’s Nicola Richardson with 3lb 1oz.

Nicola’s uncle Alan Rigg, also from Calder Bridge, had been leading for much of the match with a 2lb plaice when Nicola landed a dab, a plaice and a flounder in quick succession to relegate Alan to second place.

Top Junior on the day was Liam Rowlinson with a 14½oz plaice.

On Saturday, Tarnside SAC fished a club match at Silloth. Alan Rigg won with a 16lb bag of flounders, dabs and plaice. Second was Alan Rimmer with 10lb 14oz of flounders and dabs. Heather Rimmer was third with an all flounder catch weighing 10lb 2oz.

Mike Benson was fourth with 7lb 12oz and Nicola Richardson, who lost a bass on her first cast, was fifth with 5lb 12oz. Top junior was seven-year-old Ross Blacklock with 14 flounders for 8lb 8oz.

Elsewhere good catches are being reported all along the Cumbrian coast, cod to 6lb have been reported from the Heads, and on the West Cumbrian beaches anglers are reporting smooth hounds being caught.

Two anglers recently reported a nine bass and two smooth hound catch on crab baits with the smooth hounds weighing up to 12lb.

Angling

THE White Horse Sea Angling Club’s match last Sunday was fished from Nethertown to Lowca Beck over high water, in strong westerly winds.

1 J Murray: three cod (heaviest 5lb 3½oz) 8lb 12¼; 2 B Pickering: one bass 4lb 15¼oz; 3 P Bragg: one cod 14¼oz; 4 G Holliday: one flounder 7½oz. No junior weighed-in.

The next match this Sunday is from Nethertown to Lowca Beck, fishing from 3pm to 7pm, with the weigh-in at Wellington car park. Veteran club member Tom George managed to win the heaviest fish prize at last Saturday’s open, in aid of the MacMillan Fund, fished from Workington to Maryport, with a 2lb 4oz dog fish.

nw rockhoppers cod open.workington -allonby
flat calm sea and a small tide greeted the 70 or so anglers, not the best for cod fishing and not many were weighed in.
doggies were the main catch and rockhoppers old dog tom whitehead got stuck in big style and beat the field with a catch of 22 doggies for 34lb.he had 12 in the first hour which demoralised a lot of people when this news hit the beach grapevine.
in second was rockhoppers scottish international billy buckley with about 14lb of doggies.
third my self with 9lb 7 of dogs and dabs.
heaviest fish a 2lb 12oz cod for t.armfield.
