Local Junior angler Dan Craig sure had a "grand" day out on Paul Eddon's Charter Boat Trot On in this years Spring boat fishing festival at Whitby. Dans catch, a ling of almost 15 pounds made him the youngest winner to date of any of the Whitby Angling Festivals, and earned him the first placed prize of £1000 for the biggest fish caught in the event.

May 22nd 2007

Fishing going well for Paul on sea otter 2 again after he had the weekend off to celebrate his sons wedding down in Plymouth.

Paul says there were lots of cod caught and again Shads were doing the business. The one difference this time being that it was the smaller type of shads which caught the fish. Best catch was roughly around 4 stone of cod for the lad in the picture below.

Week - Mon 4th to Sun 10th June

A very poor week weather wise but the fish were still there in good numbers. A light to at times moderate northerly wind meant the conditions were less than perfect for boat fishing this week. The sea swell create meant the water was a touch coloured conditions were uncomfortable. However those boats which were at sea reported good catches.

On Wednesday anglers on Rich wards boat shytorque had up to 30 cod each whilst those with Paul Kilpatrick on sea otter 2 managed some quality fish up to 15 pounds. Whitby angler Phil Mead a a member of Whitby sea anglers association fished on sea otter 2 and managed his best fish this year, a fine cod of 15 pounds exactly.

On Friday the fishing was again excellent with anglers on Sea Otter 2 and Sea spray having a good day. Paul Kilpatrick reported that he had several double figure cod aboard with one lad managing 2 cod of well over the 10 pound mark.

With settled weather forecast for next week who knows what is to come.

Sea Urchin 2007

The sea urchin has been very busy recently and reporting some excellent catches of good size cod, mostly taken on shads over hard ground,

the algae bloom disappeared a few weeks ago and the fishing was phenomenal with all the WCSA boats reporting excellent catches and with so many fish around the summer angling festival looks set to be a great one.

The sea urchin still has plenty of spaces available during the festival week, you can contact mick on...07855439380 or via email... enquires@whitby-sea-fishin.co.uk

10th to 24th June

Sea otter 2 as always has been reporting excellent catches and on the 19th of June Paul Kilpatrick reported the best catches for many many years.

Quote
Well i have to say it myself today amaizing we had one of the best days angling for for 4 or or 5 years by 9 am this morning the lads had filled every box on the boat all 9 boxes were over flowing we left the harbour at 7am and starter fishing at 7 .20am and it was just hectic the cod were coming aboard 3 and 4 at a time fish up to 10lb we were back in the harbour by 1pm the lads had had enough the fishing at the moment just gets better and better.

Anglers on sea otter 2 have also reported catches up to 15 pound.

Malcolm Pitman On Sea Spray
has also been amongst the fish and is reporting some good sized cod and even bigger lings. Malcolm says:

Quote
Plenty of good sized cod / codlings up to approx 7--9 lbs along with some lovely ling up to 17.5lb We caught a lot of small codlings which all went back to live another day.
Nearly all fish were taken on a fladen 200g single pirk with only the odd one taken on shads, big mackerel baits were the order of the day for the ling.

Trot on skippered by Paul Eddon has also seen some great catches also with cod to double figures and some excellent ling. Some of the anglers on trot on are reporting catching cod at a rate of 3 or 4 per drop which is exceptional fishing.

30th June - Big Ling For Trot On

Catches continue to be exceptional for all the Whitby charter boats with some skippers reporting anglers to be catching cod on as many hooks as they dare drop into the sea. A jigger and 3 hokeyes is often resulting in 4 good sized cod. The fishing is the best it has been for around 10 years now.

In the days running up to the Whitby fishing festival Trot On skipper Paul Eddon and his mate Mike Bess ran a sweepstake on the boat for the biggest fish. Paul says they threw in a fiver each with the lads on the boat with all the money going to the heaviest fish. This turned out to be a ling of almost 22 pounds, with the lucky angler leaving the boat with enough cash to cover the price of the trip and still have some left over for a pint or 2.Paul Eddon says "Lets hope there's one bigger to win us the Summer festival this year"

Just a quick mention for Paul Drinkwater skipper of the Sarah Michelle; he took nine of us novices out yesterday 5th Sept and we had a great day.

Paul was very friendly and helpful and we would reccommend his boat to anyone; thanks again Paul.
