DECEMBER 2007

These pictures were taken by forum member Krysb of double figure cod caught whilst uptiding on Malcolm Pitmans boat Sea Spray Charters, the biggest is 15 pounds. As you can see they are not far off land at all. I am not quite sure where buth they look to be between Sandsend and Kettleness

April 2008

The water is beginning to clear at Whitby, and so its no coincidence that this week has seen a vast improvement in cod fishing for the Whitby charter boats. Paul Kilpatrick phones me yesterday and his excitement was clear - "We've had a great day with lots of cod and a good few well into double figures". Paul himself had one at 15 pounds. Here's a couple of pictures sent on by Sea Urchin skipper Mick Leonard who had a days fishing yesterday on Sea Otter 2

John Wilfords 2 doggs also had some good fishing at the weekend with his regular anglers from Boulby pottash getting amongst the fish on the wrecks off Whitby.

Early May 2008

Easterlies and big tides have slowed things down in the past week but when the boats manage to get out there they are taking good catches with the cod averaging a good size of around 5 pounds with many into double figures on each trip. At the very beginning of May Paul Kilpatrick reported that the water had cleared enough for the cod to start taking shads. This is a significant change from a few weeks ago when the fish were preoocupied with baits such as squid.

May 12th 2008

Some good fishing again today with every angler catching well on sea otter.

This is the Whitby festival main sponsor Glenn Stocks with a cod of 15 pounds

But the skipper had to go one better with a slink fish that tipped the scales at 16 pounds.

May 16th 2008

Speaking to Paul Eddon on trot on tonight and he says the fishing was good for them today with Pollock and cod both to 12 pounds. They often have a heaviest fish sweep on the boat and todays winner was Mike Bessinger with a 12 pound 8 ounces cod foul hooked in the dorsel fin with a shad. Apparently they thought it was going to be a 30 pound fish untill it hit the surface. Great fish all the same and Paul was reporting Pollock in abundance.

Just wish I could train Paul to use a camera and send some pics as I often see they have some big fish aboard.

Mid June 2008 - Whitby Sea Spray

Report from forum member SEAJAY about his recent trip on Malc Pitmans Boat - Sea Spray

well what can i say
I am just getting the feeling back in my arms from the trip out and so looking forward to getting on my favourite whitby charter boat SEA SPRAY Malcolm Pitman .In the last few weeks i have had some fantastic sport on Sea Spray
including watching malcolm nearly hook into quite a large portbeagle shark(i think we gonna need a bigger boat) that came a few feet away from the macky bait he had on the end of what seemed to be the biggest rod and reel that ive seen used . I will try to convert the underwater shots that i took of the sharks so people will believe me .
let me end this post saying that in my opinion Whitby's Sea Spray (Malcolm Pitman) is the no 1 skipper for the personal service that he gives me and my fishing buddies .

we started friday night sessions with four of us but the weather has not been good to us and that north east conger is eluding me but i know malcolm will get me one its just a matter of time and weather.he's keener than me.

I will be spending a week of the festival on Sea Spray due to the amount of fish he's been finding me .
thanks to krys for the photo and the fish he got me
best regards

simon.

Mid June 2008 - Trot On Charters

With the poor forecast for wed.,the poor fishing on the Flamborough grounds and the reports of good fishing @Whitby it really was tempting to have a trip.
All aboard with Paul on trot on. 20min steam to th 1st bit of ground it was hard to avoid the mackerel but it soon became evident that the fish that had over the last few days been so prolific on the ground had moved on.Anyway no time wasted straight to the 1st of 5 wrecks and the fish started coming aboard, mainly to shads as this method was the prefered way of avoiding the mackerel.A really good stamp of fish caught with most in the 5-10lb range,a suprise haddock of about 2lb caught by Andy who is the strange guy in the pic (friend of Glenns I believe!) with a few pollock and ling. Everyone caught and the skillful boat positioning by the skipper meant tackle losses were kept to an absolute minimum (I only lost 2sets of gear all day).
Brill day out with a proven 1st class skipper and boat.
Ended up with over 2 stone of cod fillet and as many good mackys as you wanted.
Here are a few pics.

went out yesterday with john off two dogs ,he had a spare place and gave me a ring,
set off at 7 and the morning tide was a bit fast for wrecks so hit some ground north of whiby,
come 11 am we were at .6 knotts so decided to have a bash on the wrecks and pulled out this pig of a cod ,what a pull my best ever fish from a boat (17lb)
had a great day with lads who ive not met before and they all had cod and pollack

Dear Skippers,  I am coming down with Northumbria Police on Tuesday 15th. They have a couple of boats booked for an internal competition.  I was interested to know if there are any tips to methods, rigs and baits that should be used.  I am very new to this style of fishing, but have done some wreck fishing in the past.  Will the fishing be solely over wrecks or will the Skippers move us about.

Regards Wedster.
