Filey Brigg - An Exceptional Fishing Venue.
Beware, this venue just
like all Rock fishing venues can be very dangerous. Do not think of
fishing Filey Brigg without the help and guidance of someone who has
fished there before. Filey Brigg is notoriously dangerous and largely in
accessible to most anglers except those with local knowledge. Access is
restricted and potentially dangerous for anyone who doesn't know the
area.
Filey Brigg is known to most anglers right across the UK - Brigg is a
long rock ledge that sticks out into the sea to the north side of Filey
bay and offers a whole host of fishing marks which can be accessed at
varying states of tide..
Eassily accesible venues include : Binks, Ling Rock and Green Rock with
deep water available at low tide. These venues are very popular with all
local anglers who fish them for a variety of species including mackerel,
pollock, coalfish, wrasse and Codling. Flat scars referred to as Gulley
run from Carr Naze to Brigg End off to the right offer good cod fishing
in their heavy grounds.
On the Scarborough side of the end of Filey Brigg is an excellent venue
renowned for throwing out the bigger double figure fish when the right
conditions prevail. The famous Crab hole is located on the Filey side of the Brigg this
venue is often thought of as the best fishing mark upon Filey Brigg. A
wall of rock running almost at right angles creates a whirlpool effect
when a big South Easterly sea is running and a 40 yard cast is all
that's needed to get among the cod. The crab hole usually fishes best on
the ebb tide .
Filey Brigg is a very dangerous venue indeed and even the locals have
been known to come unstuck here. I have spoken to one person who had to
be airlifted to hospital after being thrown against the back of the
Brigg by a huge wave that appeared to come from nowhere. Extreme caution
should be taken at all times. If your unsure about this venue then my
advice is to stay away.

Health and safety
Angling from the shore in the uk
is very hazardous to say the least. Every year lives are lost whilst
pursuing our fascination with sea angling. Anglers of all levels
of ability need to be very very careful indeed. At this point I would
like to offer a few words of advice to anglers.
Never attempt to fish a new
area without the help and advice of someone experienced in fishing that
area.
Always check the tide and
ensure you will be safe to access and exit your chosen area. Watch out
for cut off points. If unsure don't go. Its not worth it.
Be aware of the weather
forecast. Conditions can change fast.
Don't access closed areas, eg
piers whilst the storm gates are shut.
Carry some form of
communication.
Tell someone where you are
going and when you intend to return. Ask them to raise the alarm should
you not return.
Do not fish heavy seas. Its
very dangerous and your wasting your time anyway, fish don't like really
rough seas. Leave it a day or 2 until the sea is dieing.
If in any doubt at all just do
not fish these marks. |
