The European Open Beach Fishing Championship has now become the largest shore fishing festival in The UK and is probably one of the largest in Europe.

Anglers target a variety of species with Cod and Bass making up the mainstay of the catches. The weekends fishing warms up on the Friday with a flatfish match on the beaches at Bridlington.

The main fishing of the Weekend takes places over 2 days (Saturday and Sunday) with £2000 up for grabs for each of the daily winners and a staggering £8,000 on offer for the overall winner which is decided by the heaviest aggregate weight of each anglers 2 heaviest fish, 1 from each day. There is also an amazing prize table exceeding £20,000 in value with great prizes for Junior and lady competitors.

Anglers fish a variety of marks from Bridlington down to The River Humber. Favourite marks include Tunstall, Withernsea and Mappleton. The whole stretch of coastline is heavily populated by anglers right across the full weekend.

The event weigh in and presentation are held at the Sand Le Mare Holiday Village which is just North of Withernsea. The Holiday village is usually packed out each year and anglers also take up residence in the many other holiday camps and bed and breakfast across the area. The event is a massive boost to the local economy and proves the worth of Sea Angling in the UK.
