WHITBY SEA ANGLERS ASSOCIATION

Whitby Sea Anglers Association  is a small rock (shore/beach) fishing club based in the Yorkshire seaside resort of Whitby on the north east coast of England. The winter fishing season is from October to March with 2 matches each week (Sun & wed) with the main targeted species being cod and whiting. Sundays fishing is from 6-10 pm with the weigh in outside the Ship Inn  no later than 10.15 pm. Wednesday fishing is from 7 - 10 pm. Again weigh in before 10.15 pm.
 Club members then meet socially at the Ship Inn whose landlord provides much needed warm food after the nights fishing. Club membership is £5 per season. Club members also pay £1 per match which is placed in a sweep to be competed for within each match, the money is divided between 1st, 2nd and third places each match. Places are based on heaviest bag of fish. Each month there is a biggest fish and heaviest bag of fish competition.

The clubs boundaries are between South Gare and Flamborough. All anglers must abide by the club rules. Anglers may fish for any species, but all catches must be over the appropriate size limit for that species.  Within the club season there is also a singles and doubles knockout competition.  At the end of the season the winning club angler is the one with the heaviest aggregate of fish weight over the 6 month period.
 The first match in 2006 is Wednesday the 27th of September. For the first Wednesday's match all anglers MUST meet at the bandstand on pier road at 6.30pm to meet and welcome new members. New members both young (The club has an excellent junior section) and old are always welcome, and may join at anytime within the 6 month season.
